Group Warrior Progression
The EQWiki - Your source for random EverQuest knowledge
This is the account of the progression of my new alt, Biggen Longtoes, Halfing Warrior of Brell on the Tunare server. Playing a Warrior is new for me but I've been doing research and figuring out the best way of equipping and leveling him up to be a good tank.
While some of this will be specific to a Warrior, most of it can probably be applied to leveling and equiping any new character these days.

Level 1 -- The Twink
I've always enjoyed twinking a new character but am also proverbially cheap and generally don't spend too much. You can easily equip a new character for under 10kpp although you can easily spend 100,000s of pp if you want to.
- For melee classes their weapons are generally more important that other equipment so spend a bit more here. Ideally you want a relatively cheap weapon, usable at level 1, with a low delay (helps skillups). Get one of each type so you can switch them and keep all, or most, of your weapon skills maxed.
- Look into getting a set of the new jewelry trio items. Generally you want to get as much damage shield as possible and then HPs. You can also consider HP and mana regen. As you level you can keep the same gems and just replace the setting. Only look into getting the next level setting within 5 levels of its recommended level. Beyond that the stats decay far too much.
- Beyond the weapons and jewelry look for cheap items with lots of HP.
- Get potions including haste and damage shield appropriate to your level.
Leveling -- 1 to 55
I almost always power level my twinks with my Cleric main since it can be difficult to find regular low levels groups. The basic idea of power leveling with a Cleric is to load up the twink with as much DS as possible, pull mobs with the Cleric's Mark spells, and let them beat on the twink while the Cleric keeps them alive.
The preferred spots to power level and hot zones, empty zones, and old world zones...preferably all three. Mobs are considerably easier in the old world zones (less hp, less dps) so XP can be much quicker. Hot zones are great but I generally only use them if I can find an empty spot not being used by real groups.
If the twink has access to the first level Veteran Reward, Lesson of the Devoted, leveling can be extremely fast. Level 50 is possible in under 8 hours played.
Levels 1-50 come pretty fast but slow down noticeably past that. Fortunately, grouping becomes more of an option at this point, either in real groups or just as leech XP from higher level mains.
Leveling -- 55 to 65
I choose to leech XP by grouping my Warrior with my level 79-80 characters and boxing things in Dragonscale, getting loot in the process. By using Lesson these 10 levels can be done in a little over a week (30-60 minutes each day).
If you don't want to continue to power level you probably want to get a better set of equipment before finding a real group. You'll also want to check out and practice any skills that aren't maxed, or close to maxed, by your quick leveling.
Equipping -- Level 65
Level 65 can be obtained in under 12 hours played by taking advantage of Lesson over the course of a few weeks. I aimed for level 65 as soon as possible as that is when all of the T1 SoF non-visible armor and weapons become equippable.
A good amount of the T1 SoF gear can be very cheaply purchased in the Bazaar or, if you're cheap like me, a few days of hitting some camps in Dragonscale Hills and Loping Plains. For the visible armor I choose cultural which gives some decent AC and HP.
